INSPIRATION OF HERMANN GRAIN BINS BNB AND RETREAT CENTER

Thank you for stopping in and checking out the dream, inspiration and history of the Hermann Grain Bins BNB and Retreat Center as well as me, Donna Joerling.

My goal was to bring together the history of my farm raising just down the highway a piece and dash in a flavor of the life and stepping stones of my life’s journey along the way.  Being raised on a farm just outside Hermann, Mo off Highway 100 and still farmed by my relatives, I know this area and appreciate the hard work ethics and creativity of the farming community within its boundaries.  Generations of Germans and other groups have made this area its point of destination here in the middle of the fine state of Missouri.  Surrounded by an abundance of produce, crops, vineyard, livestock, wildlife and more, Hermann, Missouri is a great place to visit and eventually call home.

When I started to design the Hermann Grain Bins BNB and Retreat Center I began to remember my fondest times on the family farm and what I most remembered about those times gone by.  The favorite hide out on the farm was the big three story barn we had and how much fun it was to crawl in the hay loft with my pack of cats and kittens and spend leisurely time, which was a commodity back then, and draw, dream and inspire myself.  When I wasn’t day dreaming in the barn loft I was working alongside my family from dawn to dusk and many times I was the cook for them and the additional hired help we had to help run the place.  It was an obligation vs. a joy at that time to me, however, there was a certain level of personal satisfaction helping out the family, being around in particular my father and my brother Junior as well.

Cooking with my mother and sisters as well as feeding family ranks very high on the most fun and most common thing we did every single day of the week. My brother would always take a wet kitchen towel and “whip” me with it and we would chase each other around the kitchen.  Stealing cookies and muffins was always a favorite thing my Dad would do when we were baking as well.  Always something noisy and fun going on at the home of Verus and Rita Eldringhoff, my lovely parents.   People have to eat right?  Anyhow, I took the LOVE OF THE FARM, AND ADDED IN THE LOVE FOR COOKING AS A CORE PART OF THIS JOURNEY AT THE HERMANN GRAIN BINS BNB and Retreat Center.

I sincerely hope you enjoy your stay at the Hermann Grain Bins BNB and Retreat Center as my guest.  I have always been a huge lover of art, painting, creative endeavors.  As well, my soul carries the energy of a little hippie, eclectic lover, travelling gypsy also reflected in my design style.  I have taken those parts of me and like MAGIK have added them to the design features of Hermann Grain Bins BNB.  I am loveable, weird and wonderful and I bring that to you at the Bins!  I hope you enjoy the fact that from the time you open the front Pirate Ship Door with the hand carved pirate ship, your adventure and journey at the Bins begins! Open the door and let your eyes see the strange and weirdly wonderful collection of things that I discover on my journey of life. The best part is it does NOT HAVE TO MATCH anything and neither do you!  Enjoy the vibrant colors that I so adore and the odd items that make me smile and say “YUMMY gotta have that piece.”

My intention is that “the land” will be a healing source for all that visit the Hermann Grain Bins BNB.  As soon as you step foot onto “the land” it will start to heal you, re-energize you and bring joy to your life and connect you with Mother Nature at its finest.  Although a small piece of some 11 acres, “the land” is small, mighty and strong.  It boasts an abundance of wildlife and nature with the large forest of pine trees, some 40 and 50 feet tall towering above your head..  Look up and soar with the limbs of the great pine trees, today is all about a new beginning for you at the Hermann Grain Bins BNB.
